Walk on the left side! (sort of)

I suppose I knew at some point that Japanese drive on the left side of the road, but I'd forgotten. No biggie really, cause I'm not driving.

But it flips many things.  Men's and Women's bathrooms are on opposite sides, doors lock counterclockwise, you enter taxis and shuttle busses from the left (and the driver opens taxi doors automatically). You stand on the left, and pass on the right on escalators.

What really is taking some getting used to though is just walking on the left. I keep getting in the way, especially of the bicycles. What makes it harder, is that it doesn't seem to be a hard and fast rule. Sometimes everyone queues on the left and is very orderly, and sometimes it's just a swarm, and sometimes people just walk whereever.

The have these tactile guidelines everywhere (for the blind?) Dots mean an intersection. [These were in Korea too]

(Andrea - did you get the LadyHawke reference?)
