Gogulsa

Thus temple isn't what you're probably thinking of (see the Bulguksa post). Its a small order of monks living on the side of the mountain.  I only saw 4 monks the whole time I was there. Small, remote temple, but the view is spectacular!


Its really a series of small buildings leading up the mountain. Just to get from their quarters to food everyday is a trek for these monks.


The main tourist attraction gere is a stone carving of Buddha from the Silla dynasty above the temple, carved into the side of the mountain. They've put in stairs and railings, but parts are still just steps in limestone. There are also 12 stone grotto with smaller statuary.
